Rumor: Buick’s Big Surprise A Coupe?

January 8th, 2016 by

buickBuick is hosting a private event this evening off-site from the North American International Auto Show. Last year they surprised the crowd with the stunning Avenir concept, this year another all-new vehicle is expected to be revealed. After many years of speculation for the return of a Buick Grand National and GNX, this may be the time we finally see the car.

  1. GM Authority reports that General Motors “initially filed two trademark applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on May 30, 2012: one for Grand National, and the other for GNX”. That was 4 years ago, but since then GM has been given an extension several times, the last being August of 2014. Buick has also recently trademarked the name “Avista”, which is similar to the “Avenir” concept last year, so don’t be surprised if that is the name the car rolls out with instead.
  2. Reports from Bloomberg have confirmed that Buick will be unveiling two vehicles at their private event, one will be the introduction of the Buick Envision CUV, and the other “is a sporty coupe about the size of the Chevrolet Camaro sports car”

No matter what Buick unveils tonight, it will be tough to beat the excitement seen from the Avenir concept last year, however a new GNX with a twin-turbo V6, RWD, and manual transmission could definitely fit the bill! If this car appears, it will give Buick an excellent model line-up with the Cascada convertible hitting showrooms this spring, and the Buick Envision arriving as well.

What are your thoughts? Are you ready for Buick to bring back a muscle car?
